Sanrio's Hello Kitty Transforms Into Household Robot in New Storage Chest Release

Sanrio's ever-popular kawaii mascot Hello Kitty has been transformed into a limited-edition robot-style storage chest, complete with wheels, in a new household merchandise release.

In a rather unorthodox collaboration, Nichigan released a new wooden robot-shaped furniture chest last week, inspired by Sanrio's popular Hello Kitty. Via PR Times, the chest's top door features Hello Kitty's face, whiskers and iconic bow, with ears on the cupboard's top side. It retails for 55,000 yen (~US$355) and measures 38W x 30D x 68L cm with a single removable shelf. Readers can check out official images of the Hello Kitty furniture chest below.

The Sanrio designer behind My Melody and Kuromi reveals that the latter's iconic pink hood played a key role in her ranking just behind Hello Kitty.

Just 30 units of the chest were sold. Nichigan teases potential stock additions in the future, and describes it: "The Hello Kitty Chest with Casters is a robot-shaped chest with a Hello Kitty design, released by Nichigan Corporation, a company that has been delivering wooden toys and miscellaneous goods to the world for many years under the concept of 'enriching everyday life with the warmth of wood.'"

"The chair has casters at the base so it can be carried anywhere in the room. It's made in Japan at a domestic factory with an established reputation for manufacturing robot-type chests, so you can rest assured. The theme of this chest is 'Enjoy life with your beloved Hello Kitty!' and it also has ample storage space. This item is recommended not only for Hello Kitty fans but also for those who want to add some color to their room."

Nichigan's chest follows other Sanrio-inspired household goods, like RAZER's Hello Kitty chair for gamers, JoyJolt's glassware collection for the character's 50th anniversary and the official Sanrio store's Hello Kitty tumblers. Fans can also acquire virtual Hello Kitty furniture following its collaboration with Minecraft last week.
